Light was a key player in this scheme. The
proposal extends the existing property both to the side, towards the boundary
and also to the rear with a single storey open plan kitchen - dining area that
opens up onto the garden. The existing ground floor was very small with a
dining room that was more like a passage way through to the kitchen and
downstairs toilet.
The family were growing and needed more space.
First floor allows for a new double bedroom where the previous bathroom was,
the bedroom that was in the middle of the house is now the family bathroom. The
spaces at first floor now work much better and provide more usable space.
The real wow factor however is the open plan
kitchen and family area. The rear wall comprises side to side glazing in the
form of bi-fold doors along with bespoke triangular window above. Looking up to
the roof and all you see is the sky. We designed in a bespoke roof light that
follows the pitch of the roof up and over the ridge, providing as much light as
possible.
The end result is a fantastic space that really opens up the house. The small rooms are no more, instead there is an area of natural light with a modern usable kitchen and a rather nice view.
